WHAT THIS EPISODES ABOUT…
Hello and welcome to Guy Free Working on Me, a woman’s journey to self awareness. I am so glad you’re here today. You know we’ve been talking about so many different things. Self image, self awareness, self love, genuine self. I got a question from someone and I thought if they’re asking these couple of questions, then perhaps some of my listeners are also. So here was the question, ‘why do you call this a journey? Why is self-awareness a journey?’ All right. For those of you that know me, you know I’m a sailor. I’m a world traveler. I’m a lover of adventure. I really see this journey to self as an adventure, an exploration. Have you ever taken a journey somewhere that you’ve never been to? You know that the unknown is around every corner. You go to a foreign country or a new city and you don’t know what the people will be like. You wonder, will I fit in? If you’re going to like the food, if you’re going to get lost. But you have no choice to take this journey and learn the answers to all the questions as you go. Now, you can do it either filled with fear or you can do it with excitement. I like to think of the journey to awareness as the biggest, most exciting adventure you’re going to go on. You don’t know what’s around the corner and how it’s going to affect your life, but you’re gonna do it anyway. You journey into yourself and you learn the most important and profound things about who you are, how you came to be this way, and what you want to change. It’s one giant adventure to you.

Why should this time in our history be any different? Okay, wow. So there is a really good question. Let’s think about this. Our society is now allowing a new level of awareness for women to affect our own choices. The reason it’s happening now is that women are finally given freedom of choice. Since the 60s our society has given women freedom to change the roles we play in life, marriages, careers, love, and so much more. But as women we have thousands and thousands of years, of what I call multigenerational, learning that has been ingrained in our consciousness. It tells us that we need to be homemakers, wives, mothers ask any woman who struggles with the choice of work or having a children. It is in our subconscious and our DNA to choose one over another. But now with self awareness, women are actually making the choices because they want to, not because their subconscious is telling them to or their family is telling them to.
They’re choosing to be amazing mothers raising amazing children, taking care of them at home or they’re choosing not to and to go to work and show their souls in different ways or they’re choosing both, but the choice is coming from their own self truth, not someone else’s. I don’t see it as psychobabble. I see it as a map to get to who we are in our souls. This was an interesting question. Someone said to me, Shauna, I’m afraid of self-awareness because I’m afraid we’ll make it. Me want to change parts of my life that I am afraid to change. Okay? And this is what I say. This question is probably the core of why people go into denial about what they truly feel or believe. They’re afraid it’ll actually show them that there are parts of their life they need to change, whether it’s a relationship they’re afraid to leave or a family that they’re afraid to disappoint or a job that they’re afraid to quit.
Awareness cannot be denied once it starts, the awareness can’t go away unless you go back into denial. And with denial comes sadness, illness, and depression. So I always ask my clients if they are already sad, are they already depressed? Are their bodies taking the toll? The big answer is awareness does not have to mean you must leave a situation. It could mean that you just need to be more true to yourself in that situation. Do you need to stand up to your mate? Tell him you’re unhappy, you want to go to therapy? Do you need to tell your family the truth and be willing to love them anyway? Do you need to tell your boss or your coworkers that your needs aren’t being met? Whatever it is, self-awareness means you are aware of your feelings and now you can change something to find your own happiness.
You can take time, get help from people. See what it is, how you can do it. Honor yourself with the least amount of fear. You can do it in tiny steps. That’s how you truly honor your new found self awareness. So are you starting to get why I have this podcast? Self-awareness can expand into your mind, thoughts, beliefs, morals, ethics and values. It can help heal your body, your heart, and your soul. It is all of you, yourself and with awareness can come your own truth. And with truth come change and with change can come. Happiness.
