33 The Lessons of Mothers and Daughters

August 29, 2020 By Shauna

WHAT THIS EPISODES ABOUT…

Hello and welcome! I’m Shauna Hoffman.

Today I am finally talking about mothers and daughters. I have promised this podcast for a few weeks now. I think the reason that I kept putting it off is that it’s such a profound conversation. It’s filled with so much emotion, joy, or pain for so many people. And where do I begin? This is a relationship that is different for each and every one of you. Whether you are listening today as a Mom, or as a daughter or as both, the story of moms and daughters weave a very colorful canvas. There are those of you who have had truly beautiful relationships with your mothers. There are those of you whose biggest sadness, heartache, and pain is from what should be a truly sacred bond. And there are those of you who are currently trying to navigate this journey every day with your own daughters, young, teen and adult.

This podcast is meant to be a journey to self-awareness. And there is no way that I can help you do that if you don’t take a deep look at the relationship you had with your mother. There are models online that talk about the different kind of mother-daughter relationships. From best friends, or sister relationships to cheerleaders or authoritarians. But the best way that I can help you today is to help you see that this relationship is one that deeply affected your idea of who you are. It is the relationship that helped you know what unconditional love is or isn’t. It is the relationship that either empowered you, or broke you down. It is the model for you of what a woman is. And what a woman’s role in society is. Most importantly it is what you were programmed about who you are and what you deserve in life.

32 Talking Power with Laura Piening of the Power Peers Network

August 22, 2020 By Shauna

WHAT THIS EPISODES ABOUT…

Welcome, everyone. I am so excited about today’s podcast because we have a wonderful guest by the name of Laura Piening. Laura has created something called the Power Peers Network. It is a forum to explore the heroic nature of who you truly are. Seriously! Can it get much better than that? Let me tell you a little about Laura.

Her professional path includes experience as a Wall Street banker, corporate organizational consultant, nonprofit executive, motivational speaker, and writer. The depth and breadth of these experiences have strengthened her ability to inspire vision, to bring people together, and to develop successful partnerships.

As a child, Laura’s mother asked her if she wanted to be a big fish in a little pond or a little fish in a big pond. Laura responded, “Neither. I want to be a big fish in a big pond with other big fish, loving life, and living in harmony!” She knew, even then, that true power seeks peers.

Today, the Power Peers Network is the actualization of this intention. The one-hour Power Peers video-conference calls encourage participants to speak from their hearts about what matters to them. They engage in conversations based on respect, with the integrity of listening, and understanding. The experience is exciting and rewarding for all who participate. So now let’s welcome Laura Piening.

Quotes by Laura Piening-
“We have to grab back power as a positive force.”
“The feminine power is the one that’s connected to the non-material reality.”

Shauna’s favorite quote about power
“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.” ~Audrey Lorde

31 Time to Dump Those Bad Habits

August 15, 2020 By Shauna

WHAT THIS EPISODES ABOUT…

Hello Everyone! I’m Shauna Hoffman.

Let’s start with a quick check of your self care this week. I end every episode telling you to take care of yourselves. Eat good food, drink lots of water, get lots of sleep. Well? Did you? I started to formulate today’s episode with the intention of talking about Mother’s and Daughters. OK, I promise that will be next week’s episode. Because if I were to let the universe guide me today, which I try to do everyday, it seems that talking about YOU and your self care is where I am being led! And today we are going to delve into the fabulous word- habits.

30 Your Wisdom Day, Ain’t It Fab!

August 8, 2020 By Shauna

WHAT THIS EPISODES ABOUT…

Hello to all my fabulous listeners. I’m Shauna Hoffman

Happy Birthday to all of the Leos out there! I’m one of them. Since my birthday is this week I thought I would have some fun talking about what it means to get older, whether you are in your 20’s or 80’s! Really, how do we do this in today’s society of “hot celebrity new looks” and “Cosmo’s perfect ten hairstyles for women over 30?” I may be a therapist speaking to all of you about how to be your genuine selves, how to love yourself for who you are! But I’m reading the same magazines as you are! And I am always being challenged by my own ego.

I love the idea that as we get older we are supposed to gain more wisdom. But even as a 17-year old I realized that wisdom is not gained easily. Often it’s gained from lessons given to us from an older wiser human, I could listen to my grandfather share his wisdom with me any day. But most often it is gained from surviving experiences in our lives. Surviving them, making sense of them, learning any and all lessons we can from them, and embracing them.

Ready? Let’s get started…
