Hello everyone. This is Shauna Hoffman, welcome to Guy Free Working on Me. A woman’s journey to self-awareness. This episode is going to be a reprieve of one of my favorite ones, it’s called the love fest, please enjoy.

Today is going to be a lot of fun because this is what I call the love Fest, the self love movement. Do y’all notice ever that as soon as someone separates from another person that all of a sudden they give themselves permission to go out and have a good time? All of a sudden you see your friends who are getting a divorce are getting separated and they’re out partying, and they’re meeting up with their girlfriends, and their going out to the movies theater and having so much fun. That’s what happens when finally we are no longer living our life for someone else. The challenge that happens right after you tend to leave someone is, you do it in such a way, you party in such a way, that you’re not actually honoring yourself.

Hi Everyone, I’m Shauna Hoffman

Welcome to a much lighter episode of Guy Free, Working On Me. The last two episodes were pretty profound for so many people, including me. The feedback that I have gotten as to the soul searching it brought up for my listeners about their programming around race and their programming around the voice of a woman has been eye opening for all of us. I hope that as we fly through these episodes you continue to dig deep into your thoughts and beliefs, morals, ethics and values. For that is the true path to Self Awareness.

So what should we talk about today? Love? Life? Healing? How about VACATIONS! No, I’m serious! Because I think we all need to get the hell away right now on a grand adventure and we can’t. Many of you know that I have another side of me. I am an adventurer. I own a sailboat, I am actually recording this as I sit on my sailboat right now! So if you hear a wave or a foghorn just enjoy! I love the ocean and I am passionate about traveling the world. There is nothing that fascinates me as much as the psychology of travel!

22 The Voice of a Woman

Welcome to Guy Free, Working On Me. The last episode was pretty profound for so many people, including me. The feedback that I have gotten as to the soul searching it brought up for my listeners has been eye opening for all of us. I hope that as we fly through these episodes you continue to dig deep into your thoughts and beliefs, morals, ethics and values. For that is the true path to Self Awareness.

But what good is our new found values, opinions, thoughts and desires if we as woman are afraid to use our voice and share it with the world?

I find myself in therapy constantly trying to empower women to share their voices. In my book I talk about the Adaptive Child State in all of us. It is a side of our personalities that woman have been made to embrace for thousands of years. It is the side of us that adapts our needs and wants to do what others desire versus what we desire. We become adaptive to their needs, their dreams, their lives. And we learn to quiet our brilliant, strong and powerful voices. I call it the No VOICE state. But there is a new shift in the world. It is a shift where woman are not only taking back their voices, but they are shouting them to the heavens. In this time of protests and bloggers and podcasters we are seeing the voices of women claim back our rights. Not only out in the public for the world to see. But in our work places, in our families and most importantly… in our relationships.

21 The Great Unlearning

Hello I am Shauna Hoffman.

I had promised that we would have Acupuncturist and Chinese medicine doctor Andra Millian back this week to discuss putting together your wellness team. But due to the heartache our country is in right now over the murder of George Floyd podcasters around the world are staging a blackout. You can find it at #podcastblackout. I thought for a very long time about which direction I would take in order to stand in solidarity with black lives matter knowing that many of my listeners may not be in agreement. The answer came to me when I realized that the best podcast I could do today was one on the self awareness of where our own personal loves, likes, morals, ethics, values, fears and prejudices come from. This podcast is about self awareness. And there is nothing I think I could do more than help each of my listeners dig deep into their thoughts and values to see if they hold true for who you are in the deepest part of your hearts. And more importantly, who you want to be. Thank you for taking this journey with me today. Remember my saying… when we make the subconscious conscious it can go away.

19 Balance, Breath, Lockjaw

Hi ladies! Today’s podcast came out of a moment of my own self awareness. It has been a tough 8 weeks as everyone is handling shelter at home during the Covid 19 virus. You may be listening to this a year from now, but regardless, I hope you hear the awareness I want to share with you today. As a therapist I have been seeing clients virtually and by phone to help people make it through this time of fear, uncertainty and massive change.

Now I am not one that usually experiences anxiety or depression. I am lucky in that regard. I have always thought that’s what gives me the opportunity to be there as much as I can when my clients need me. These last two weeks I thought was no different. I have been seeing clients virtually, sheltering at home. I have been hearing stories of anxiety and loss and lots of loneliness. Then the weirdest thing happened… and I mean weirdest! I got lockjaw! Lockjaw! Truly I had heard of it before but never known anyone to get it. And here I had it! Out of nowhere my jaw would just lock, frozen off to one side. The first time it happened I freaked. But with a little help from google and the mighty force of youtube videos, heat and ice it would just pop back. What the hell!!!!!!???

Then next thing I noticed, as I have became highly aware of my jaw, was that while I was editing my podcasts I was clenching my jaw! Virtual health with the doctor and the question asked “do you clench your jaw while you sleep?” “No, doc! Never have.” HA! Well that was a lie! That same day I woke up in the middle of the night and damned if I wasn’t clenching my jaw like a vice! So here I said to you that I usually never have anxiety…and here I am having some of the most bizarre symptoms that anxiety can give you! And leave it to me! I’m a therapist and need to talk! I’m a podcaster and need to record! I am fricking sheltered at home and my oh so big joy is eating delicious meals. And BAM! I can’t talk, I cant record and I cant eat! You know the brilliant Louise Hay would say there are always emotional or psychological issues associated with our ailments. I think my jaw was telling me to stop talking for a bit and check in with… myself! Its kind of a flaw of healers. You know the saying, “physician, heal thyself”?

So here I am podcast after podcast, years of helping others as a therapist and I had forgotten to check in with myself.
